Welcome to 1220HSL. This course is focused on technologically driven shifts in industrial, cultural, and social paradigms, and the subsequent impact on humanity and business. But that is really just a platform. This is much more about providing you with a chance to free your mind. An offers to reflect on and offer up who you are and what you stand for. An opportunity to reflect in a time of all too easy automation is a special thing. But it can be confronting. So allow allow us to confront you. Provoke you. we will do so with an outstretched hand. Allow us to teach you to be careful about what you know – and in the process how to use time well.

You will immediately be challenged to offer up your standpoint on technology. The challenge will come in consideration of two opposing ideals – technology is “an inherent component of human evolution” (Kelly, 2005) – or a slippery slope toward “ubiquitous subservience to giant computers” (Lanier, 2015). This is a chance to free your mind. Regardless of you standpoint you will then be forced to play – tasked with developing a website for a business you may want to set up in the future. This is a chance to be creative and innovative. At the end you will get a chance to reflect on everything you have done. And asked a confronting question, “tell us why you think you are still breathing”. This is a chance to tell a powerful story. This course is built upon the idea that the opposite of one great truth may very well be – just another great truth. When you enroll you enter into an eternal discussion on where that truth may lie for you.
